Foreword and Formal Approval

This module is designed to equip persons with the required skills and knowledge too safely and effectively transport persons, material, equipment and explosives by means of a light delivery vehicle in an underground mine.

 

This module is developed according to the standards, procedures and codes of practice applicable to the Company. Regulations pertaining to this performance, as reflected in the Mine Health and Safety Act No 29 of 1996 are and risks formally identified by means of a risk assessment process are included which gives the learner the ability to identify and deal with work-related hazards and associated risks.

 

The module details the sequence of steps to be followed in the training process and establishes a criterion by which trainees are to be trained and tested.

Introduction

 

This learning module is useful for persons who have the responsibility to safely and effectively transport persons, material and equipment by means of a light delivery vehicle in an underground mine. Persons competent in this unit standard are able to:

 

  • Explain the specified requirements pertaining to the transportation of persons, material and equipment;
  • Prepare the L.D.V. for transporting; and
  • Perform transport duties.
  • Perform post-transporting activities
