Lifting Operations

 

Any activity involving the lifting of a suspended load using a machine or device is covered by this protocol.

 

Cranes must have the following minimum safety features:

1)Labelled lockable isolation switch.

2)Overload protection.

3)Load cells on cranes other than automated cranes.

4)Free fall capability locked out and disabled if installed.

5)Air-conditioning of cabins where operators are exposed to temperature extremes, dust & noise.

6)Clearly legible signs warning not to disturb the operator when busy with a lift.

7)External rated capacity.

8)Load moment indicators on cranes other than electric overhead travelling cranes, portal cranes or automated stacker cranes.

9)Identification numbers for clear and positive crane identification from beyond a safe distance.

10)Load rating charts in an understandable language on mobile and vehicle loading cranes.

11)Manuals available in an understandable language.
