- At Elikhulu Operation we treat old tailings dams which contain gold. These dams are where the Gold Mines used to deposit their waste (tailings) that were left after most of the Gold was extracted.
- There are three existing tailings storage facilities will be reclaimed and treated.
- The plant is designed to remine and treat one million tons a month
- The metallurgical processes used at Elikhulu include:
– Slurry receiving
– Carbon in Leach
– Elution
– Electrowinning
– Smelting
– Deposition of the tailings. - Plant tailings will be deposited into one expanded tailing storage facility located at the current Kinross TSF footprint
