Lesson 1 – Safety Induction

SAFETY INDUCTION FOR VISITORS TO ELIKHULU GOLD PLANT

Note: When performing any work on machinery, vehicles or equipment, you are required to conduct a risk assessment of the activity to be performed together with the person under whose supervision you are during the visit. A copy of the completed risk assessment must be available during the complete cycle of the activity on request.

 

 

The following general rules need to be kept in mind:

  • No firearms are allowed on site.
  • The mine adheres to a Mine Health and Safety Act System and has the health and safety of all its employees, contractors and visitors at heart.
  • Visitors are requested to obey the safety rules, instructions and notices at all times.
  • No visitors are allowed to wander around unattended. They must report to the person they have an appointment with.
  • No person is allowed in an area where machinery is operated, unless accompanied by a mine representative.
  • Please make sure you have the correct PEE for the plant before you enter the gold plant.
  • Please take note that machinery and other equipment are being used on this site. There may also be transportation and other activities from time to time. You must therefore take the necessary care to safeguard yourself against injuries and/or damage to your property.
  • For your safety please report any medical condition which might have an effect on your visit; ( See medical declaration attached).
  • When performing any work on any machines, vehicles or equipment you must ensure that you comply with the required lock out procedures.
  • With the above in mind, you are entering this site at your own risk. The mine and/or its employees will not accept liability for any loss, damage and/ or injury you may suffer due to omission or negligence to any rules above, displayed on notice boards or given, not adhered to whilst being on this site.

 

 

GENERAL SAFETY

  • Please obey all traffic signs
  • The speed limit on mine roads is 40km/h.
  • Be cautious and reduce speed when roadways are wet, slippery or dusty.
  • Beware of pedestrians on mine roads.
  • Beware of moving machinery and conveyors and listen for back-up alarm sounds.
  • Beware of moving cars.
  • Do not enter unauthorized areas.
  • Assume all electrical wires and connections are live.
  • Do not enter any substation and do not touch an electrical installation.
  • Report any accident or incident immediately to management.
  • No cell phones or cameras are allowed in the plant. Handover your cell phone to the security.
  • If you do not know – ASK.
