The following procedure is to be followed in the event of a fire:
- Any person discovering a fire shall notify the Security Control Room immediately.
- The Security Control Room shall immediately notify the Security Manager, Security Officer, and Mine Fire Master.
Staff Members:
- On discovery of the fire, alert all residents in the hostel.
- Staff in rooms to wake all other residents and to evacuate the rooms immediately.
- Attack the fire by using apparatus available.
- Evacuate via the shortest route.
- Switch off electricity supply at main switch.
- Remove injured from scene and render first aid.
- Assemble at emergency assembly point.
NB: Use dry chemical extinguishers for electrical fires.
- Be useful and do not stand in the way.
- Close all doors and windows if possible.
- Disconnect all electrical appliances..
- STAY CALM – DO NO PANIC!!
