- The use of oxy-acetylene equipment in itself is not dangerous provided that a trained operator uses it.
- Remember that oxygen, although not in itself combustible, supports and accelerates combustion.
- Clothes and other materials not considered flammable will burn fiercely in the presence of oxygen.
- Fuel gases are highly flammable and will ignite instantly from a spark or even from a piece of hot metal. Care in the operating and handling of equipment is essential and the Code of Practice should be strictly adhered to at all times.
- See that all joints between cylinders and torch, especially those at the cylinder valve, which are under high pressure, are gas-tight.
- Do not test for leakage with a flame. Use soap water.
- Forbid smoking or naked flames when working on hose fittings. Leaking cylinders must not be used
