Lesson 4 – Equipment, Training and Competency

TRAINING

Training for the safe use of the equipment, mentioned in the table above, shall be performed by an approved outside service provider.

Periodic re-training shall be done as per BML standard.

The Training Department shall keep records of all persons trained for equipment

 

COMPETENCY

Once an employee has been found competent to safely use the equipment, mentioned in this SOP, the Engineer (or his delegate) will authorize such persons for the specific type of equipment that he/she was trained for.

BML Training Centre shall then issue that employee with a “Competency ID” card/tag as soon as the training documentation has been received from the outside service provider.

 

Such card/tag shall contain at least the information, as listed below. An example of such an ID card/tag is displayed at Figure 1 below;

1.Name, Surname & Employee Number,

2.Company/Payroll Number,

3.Competency Tag Number,

4.Type of Machinery/Equipment authorized to use, after being found competent,

5.Issue & Expiry date of authorization,

6.Signature of the Engineer,

7.Signature of the Training Coordinator,

8.A recent photo of the person.

No person shall be allowed to operate any of the equipment mentioned in this SOP, unless that person has been authorized to do so  –  MHSA Regulation 8.8(3)(a).

At Barberton Mines Limited, a person shall be authorized to operate the equipment/machinery listed on the Competency ID Card/Tag, provided that he/she is in possession thereof, and that such card is legitimate and still valid.

A Competency ID Card/Tag shall be valid for a certain period, which shall be as specified by BML standard.
