Lesson 5 – RSJ’S and Channel Liners

  • During loading, a sufficient number of well trained and properly instructed personnel shall load RSJ’s or channel liners from the back of a truck and push them in. Under no circumstances will RSJ’s and liners be loaded on the sides of any vehicle.
  • In the shaft during repairs, only well trained and properly instructed shaft personnel who are under the direct supervision of the Shaft Timberman or shaft boilermaker shall manhandle RSJ’s.
  • RSJ’s and channel liners shall be transported into the underground workings with the use of material cars that were designed for the purpose.

OTHER EQUIPMENT OR MATERIAL OTHER THAN MENTIONED ABOVE

  • Equipment or material that weighs less than 1,5 tons may be handled by any properly instructed person.
  • Only a qualified rigger or a Timberman in the shaft will handle equipment or material that weighs more than 1,5 tons.
