STEEL PLATES

  • During loading at the mine stores small pieces of planks shall be inserted between the steel plates in order to avoid hand injuries during off-loading.
  • Plates that are 6mm thick or less may be manhandled by a minimum of two persons.
  • 10mm thick plates may only be manhandled by a minimum of four persons.
  • Under no circumstances will any person be allowed to manhandle plates that are more than 10mm thick. The suitable lifting devices will be used to move or lift such plates or alternatively, they can be rolled on pipes following a drawn-up procedure.
  • Steel plates shall be transported into the underground workings with the use of material cars that were designed for the purpose.
