Lesson 5 – Legal Requirements

Prior the removal I extraction of any identified Pillar the requirements as per the following directive from the DMR must be complied with-

 

AS PER DMR DIRECTIVE REF.MS-3-2018 DATED 2018-12-19

This procedure must be reviewed by a Mine Manger appointed in terms of section 3(1) of the Mine Health  and  Safety Act  No.  29 of  1996  (MHSA) is  conducted  and such review  includes a comprehensive written  risk assessment, which is fully informed  by the provision of section 1 subsection (1) to (4) of the MHSA.

A written  notification  prior  to  pillar removal I extraction must be submitted to  the Principal Inspector of Mines.

  • Plans of the workings contemplated in regulation 17.22 of MHSA
  • Geological Plan contemplated in regulation 17.2 of MHSA
  • Mine Ventilation and Rescue Plan contemplated in regulation 17.19 of MHSA
  • Reason or purpose for the existence of the pillar
  • Reasons for the desired removal/extraction of the pillar
  • A comprehensive written risk assessment: and
  • Restrictions and conditions that are considered necessary to extract/remove pillars.
