Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervision and control of person’s travelling up and down chairlifts.
- Supervision and control the transportation of tools and equipment as per managerial instruction displayed on al boarding and landing sites.
- In case of an accident, the safe transportation of patient on the stretcher carrier.
- Removal and replacement of faulty grips.
- Removal and replacement of chairs.
- Removal and replacement of lighting globes and tubes.
- Cleaning of all chairlifts.
- Assisting artisan with maintenance duties.
On the Job Knowledge Required
- Know how to start System A
–Before starting (Do visual inspection) from checklist
–Check indicator lights on panel if ok.
–Check for oil spillage or oil leaks at Gear Box Brake Power Pack and Sheave
- Brake Path and Floor below Portal Frame if in order.
- Check oil levels if ok – start up if any abnormalities are present, excessive oil spillage etc – Investigate if unable to rectify report to responsible artisan immediately.
- Note: If after normal working hours -call out standby Artisan.
- How to stop Chairlift:
–Ensure NO persons are ON chairs.
–Press one of the E-STOPS to stop.
–Note: Do NOT STOP using TRIPWIRE unless in an emergency or as a LOCK OUT whilst performing chairlift maintenance or duties (work).
Brow and Heel Set
- If the light on the panel indicates that the machine has tripped on “heel or brow” sets, do NOT START! -Do NOT RESET! until the attendant or any other competent person has physically investigated (checked) and ensured that there are no abnormalities or the rope has not come off at either the “Brown or Heel” sets, the competent person must walk through the system and inspect each landing for abnormalities or de-ropement, hooked chair or any other mechanical problem could cause the system to trip.
Re-starting the chairlift in case of a de-ropement
- When the chairlift has tripped in the shaft on a line stand, the area in which the de-ropement occurred will indicate at the drive end, as well as the “DE-ROPEMENT” indication light
- The one chairlift attendant must then remain at the drive of the chairlift, as the 2nd chairlift attendant travels down to where the possible de-ropement occurred, after inspecting /repairing the de-ropement in the shaft the attendant must travel to the next landing below where the tripped occurred, and by communication with the attendant at the drive end, they must simultaneously press the reset buttons of the shaft de-ropement reset
- Once the “DE-ROPEMENT” condition has been rectified, the normal starting procedure will apply
Indication of Trip Wire Tripped
- DO NOT FORCE the trip switch to RESET, same procedure as above 5.3(a)
Indication of Counter Weight Tripped
- A possible hook-up inside chairlift, same procedure as above 5.3 resulting in a counter weight trip on the top limit or an indication that there has been excessive stretch in the rope resulting in a counter weight trip on the bottom limit. If these conditions occur, attendants must notify a relevant Artisan and Foreman or after-hours standby Artisan must be called out.
- The counter weight should be positioned within a marked area, if the counter weight is not within the required mark, then the relevant Artisan must be informed and the counter weight could then be adjusted accordingly using the adjustment winch to either tension or slack the counter weight to the correct position.
Running Checks
- If a chairlift is running under normal conditions, attendants must ride through, visually checking Brow Sets, Heel Sets, Line Stands and Wheels for alignment, running of Chairs in Chairlift, Rope Grips, Drive and Rope return sheaves, Counter weight position.
- If any irregularities are observed, notify relevant Artisan immediately.
Chairs and Grips
- If a chair is running skew turning in or out, chairlift must be stopped, removed and grip checked. Ensure chair pipe-work is not bent. If all ok, replace and torque to the required specification- 21 Nm using torque wrench.
- If chair is loose or making a rattling noise, stop chairlift, remove chair strip, inspect grip (Belville stacking arrangement) and chair bushes, if no abnormalities, replace chair and torque to the required specifications – 21 Nm using a torque wrench. For any abnormalities remove chair and replace with a service exchange unit.
Specific Tasks
A chairlift attendant must be able to remove and refit a damaged or broken chair, rope grip and chair pivot bushes.
- Knowledge of the use of a torque wrench- check torque wrench setting 21 Nm.
- Understanding of the Belville spring stacking arrangement.
- Wheel and lyre repairs including bearing replacements.
- Assisting maintenance crew to repair, replace or alignment of line stands.
- Assisting maintenance crew to replace drive or return sheave inserts.
- Assisting maintenance crew in the moving or repositioning of chairs. Assisting maintenance crew with the installation or splicing of the rope.
- Assisting maintenance crew on mechanical drive or return repairs.
- Assisting maintenance crew with general maintenance.
