1. ENTRY INTO ABANDONED AND OLD WORKINGS (RECCE’S)
Prior to entering such workings, the preparation and planning will include:
1. Obtained plans to identify route, travel ways, tips, ore passes, 2nd outlets etc.
2. Obtain as much geological, survey and sampling information as possible, to identify key targets.
3. Obtaining ore relevant data from Ventilation Department.
4. To inform BML mine overseer about “recces” to be done, to specify areas to be entered.
5. Take all reasonable precautionary measures before attempting to do any work.
1.1. Team Making Entry
a) At least one Shift boss
b) At least two assistants.
1.2. Risk Assessment
- A risk assessment must be conducted to identify all hazards and risk in the abundant working areas. BML Mine Overseer to be informed about reccy to be done.
- The team must inspect:
–Current permanent support
–Open excavation cover platforms
–Hangwall conditions
–Test ventilation
–Test temperature
–Determine the inclination of the workings for travel way requirements
–Determine the mining method to be used
–Sample areas to be mined
–Do risk assessment for each individual pillar to be extracted
–Procedure to be drafted for workings required
–Identify accumulation of water
2. PROCEDURE ON CLOSE DOWN OF WORKING AREA
The following tasks must be conducted when a working area will be closed:
- Ensure area been supported to standard
- Area to be surveyed
- Engineering department to isolate all electrical supplies
- Removal of equipment and material and combustible material
- Remove all explosive from workings
- Ventilation department to conduct survey with recommendations
- Close water and air services to workings
- Install no entry barricades to section
