CRITERIA 5.1 – Employment Law: Compliance Basics – Introduction

  • As human resource professions already know, federal, state and even company policy regarding employment laws is complex and strict.

  • Perhaps nothing can cause a supervisor or manager as much difficulty as ignorance of applicable labour laws. A clear understanding of the rights of employees is not just important – it is essential knowledge.

  • Legal concerns can and will vary by organization and state, province or country. This chapter does not attempt to educate human resources or managers on the specifics of employment law, but rather attempts to present an overview of basic labour laws and what it means to be an agent of the organization.
