CRITERIA 1.11 – Supervisors in the communication cycle

Supervisors are the linchpin in the workplace communication cycle.

They take the key messages from upper management and interpret them for the workplace team into behaviours and operational activities- and they’re also responsible for presenting the issues, suggestions and ideas of the workforce back to the management team.

The flow of communication needs to be smooth and clear- not only in regard to the content, but in the way the content is conveyed. When people communicate, they take in a number of messages apart from the spoken words. Preparation is therefore important when communicating- both with the boss and the team members on the floor.
