Equipment Safeguarding
1)Equipment to be designed as not to require guarding.
2)Safeguarding to be used where person are not adequately protected according to a risk assessment.
3)Equipment safeguards to be designed & constructed to comply with legislation and leading industry practices.
4)Risk assessments to be done to identify any safeguarding hazards that require additional interlock systems.
5)The condition of equipment safeguarding shall be continually maintained and monitored.
6)Access to equipment to be controlled where safeguarding & interlock systems are insufficient to protect persons.
7)Guards shall only be removed for maintenance and repair and only once equipment is isolated and locked out.
8)Guards shall be replaced prior to plant and equipment being put back into operation.
9)Guards should be designed, to allow safe adjustment of equipment without requiring to remove the guard.
10)Ensure all hired / contracted equipment meets equipment safeguarding requirements before use on the site
11)Protective measures to be implemented where safeguards are insufficient to properly control the risk.
12)All powered manually operated rotating machinery and tools must be equipped with an ‘Auto-Off’ switch.
